Agentic AI is invading business execution

As agent AI moves into production, the question of what companies will actually entrust to it becomes increasingly difficult.

Infor Inc. believes that industry contexts can help bridge this gap. The enterprise software company is integrating AI agents, process intelligence and automation into its applications as companies look for ways to go beyond co-pilots and use AI in operational workflows.

“As artificial intelligence agents move from experimental tools to production systems, management is forced to answer a tougher question,” said Paul Nashawaty, principal analyst at theCUBE Research. “It is no longer enough to know what an agent did. Organizations increasingly need to demonstrate what the agent was authorized to do, why it was allowed to perform a particular action, and whether that authority was maintained when tasks were moved across multiple agents and systems.”

Infor Velocity Week brings together Infor executives, customers and industry experts on October 7 with exclusive coverage from theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. TheCUBE will examine how Infor uses agentic AI in enterprise operations and whether industry specialization can help transform AI investments into measurable business results. (*Disclosure below.)

Industry context shapes Infor’s agent AI strategy

Infor has made industry specialization a core part of its AI strategy. In April, the company expanded its Industry AI Agent library to more than 100 agents and improved its Agentic Orchestrator, which coordinates agents across multi-tier workflows.

The approach targets industries such as manufacturing, distribution, automotive and food and beverage where AI systems need to understand specific data, processes and operational requirements.

“Our industry-specific platforms, multi-tenant architecture and comprehensive process intelligence give our agents a level of contextual precision that generic AI simply cannot replicate,” said Chief Executive Officer Kevin Samuelson when Infor announced new features in the Velocity Suite. “We sell measurable results to industries by using AI to meet our customers where they are and provide them with a clear, simple and efficient path to where they want to be.”

This strategy also brings process intelligence into the equation. Infor combines Process Mining, Value+ automations, GenAI and Industry AI Agents to help companies identify bottlenecks and potentially delegate more of the resulting work to automated systems. The challenge is to move these capabilities beyond isolated deployments.

Infor’s Enterprise AI Adoption Impact Index found that 49% of companies surveyed were still in the early stages of AI deployment, while security, sovereignty, compliance, talent shortages and unclear return on investment continued to slow adoption. This raises an important question for Velocity Week: Can industry knowledge and process context give agent AI enough foundation to become part of everyday company operations, rather than another level of experimentation?
