Exclusive: Huskeys adds profiling to map which parts of web applications a company depends on

The edge security startup Huskeys Security Ltd. today added profiling to its platform to find out which parts of a company’s web applications the company depends on.

The new feature solves a long-standing problem at the network edge, where most large enterprises operate a stack of third-party security products from multiple vendors. Content delivery networks, bot defense systems, and web application firewalls each only see their own traffic layer. Without the context of others, Huskeys argues, controls tend to remain generic, and that can mean legitimate customers are blocked.

Profiling begins with the application itself. The software examines who is calling each endpoint and what those callers – whether human or automated – appear to be looking for. The most important routes for the company are marked, as are the existing security checks. This profile allows Huskeys to assess each request against the standards of the customer’s own application.

Roy Weisfeld, co-founder and chief technology officer of Huskeys, said most organizations protect everything in the same way, “like a mall with a security team guarding every store equally, whether it’s a luxury boutique or a concession stand.” Profiling should give each business its own protection, he added.

The profile is the first stage of what Huskeys calls its Hardening Loop. The platform continually monitors a profiled path for signs of abuse and when it finds something, it recommends the solution it expects to make the biggest difference. Customers must log out before a check is put into operation.

The company then checks whether the change has the desired effect. “The customer decides; Huskeys delivers,” said Yotam Mazurik, who leads the company’s research team.

Huskeys introduces profiling as machines account for a growing share of traffic to web applications. Matthew Prince, CEO of Cloudflare Inc., said in June that automated traffic accounted for more than half of requests for websites on Cloudflare’s network.

Some of this comes from artificial intelligence agents shopping and completing transactions for their users. Security tools that rely on traffic signals alone have a difficult time distinguishing these agents from abusive bots.

The narrowing gap between the disclosure of a vulnerability and attacks that exploit it is another reason Huskeys cites for the launch. Security teams “have been trying for years to respond more quickly,” Weisfeld said. His alternative is to “understand what is important before the next incident so you can remove the window instead of constantly wasting time.”

Profiling is currently in beta with a limited number of customers and does not require any special onboarding to get started. Huskeys says results will be available within hours.

Huskeys has raised $35 million, including $8 million announced at launch in March. Blackstone Inc., whose Blackstone Innovations Investments arm led a $27 million Series A round in September, also uses the product.
