WTF?! Elon Musk says he will rename SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI after President Trump ordered the term Super Intelligence (SI) to be used instead of artificial intelligence. Musk appears to be following in the footsteps of fellow CEO Mark Zuckerberg, although the Facebook boss – who changed his company’s name several years ago to reflect a technology he liked at the time – has not yet announced that Meta AI is now called Meta SI.
Musk announced his decision on his X platform. After posting “No more AI” and that SI was better, a user asked about the possibility of SpaceXAI becoming SpaceXSI. “Yes, we will make that change,” he replied.

This all comes as Trump reiterated his earlier call for artificial intelligence to be renamed “Super Intelligence” at last week’s technology summit. His executive order directed U.S. government departments and agencies to use the term in reference to the technology. The order states that SI will take the place of AI in “official correspondence,” websites, reports and other forms of communication. Trump previously said the word “artificial” made the technology sound “fake.”
As a reminder, SpaceX acquired xAI in February. Then in July, Musk renamed xAI to Space XAI, so changing it again to SpaceXSI could confuse a lot of people.
At the time of writing, SpaceXAI has not changed its name on the company’s website or official X account. This certainly wouldn’t be the first time Musk said he would do something that never came to fruition, like having a cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg.

Speaking of Zuckerberg: He is also said to have started talking about superintelligence instead of artificial intelligence. This too must be a bit confusing when he talks a lot about superintelligence, an AI (or SI) that far exceeds human cognitive performance in virtually all areas.
Of course, Zuckerberg changed the company name from Facebook to Meta a few years ago because he was so convinced that the Metaverse would be the future of humanity and technology. This isn’t one of his best predictions.
Aside from these two billionaires – and the government agencies they have to use – we don’t see many people using the term superintelligence instead of artificial intelligence. It’s also hard to imagine that this will change.
