Cloudera builds its AI strategy on deployment flexibility

Deployment flexibility changes the enterprise technology equation as companies weigh new model options against existing data and development investments.

Open weight models and open source clouds are generating renewed interest in on-premise deployment. According to Paul Gillin (pictured right), business editor at SiliconANGLE Media and theCUBE, Cloudera Inc.’s expertise in data analytics provides a foundation for meeting this demand.

“Companies want to have control so that they don’t think they’re going to end up in the public cloud,” he said. “I think Cloudera sees that and they’re not ashamed to say that’s what they care about.”

Gillin spoke with EVOLVE26 co-host Rebecca Knight (left) during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed deployment flexibility, platform modernization, and Cloudera’s approach to partnerships. (*Disclosure below.)

Deployment flexibility supports incremental modernization

Cloudera’s Anywhere Cloud includes on-premises, private cloud, public cloud and hybrid environments. Beyond this deployment flexibility, Gillin says the architecture addresses the practical challenge of updating enterprise systems as development needs change.

“They recognize that upgrading forklifts is a daunting prospect for many [chief information officers]”So they’re modularizing the product so you can specifically patch and update components that are important to you,” he said. “I think they’re trying to make it easier for customers to gradually migrate to AI by modernizing their data and their development platforms and supporting the various AI development tools available.”

Cloudera’s growing partner ecosystem was another recurring theme in the day’s interviews and keynote. Knight says these relationships reflect a recognition of where outside expertise can complement its platform.

“It seems like Cloudera takes a very smart and selective approach to choosing their partners because they can’t be all things to all people, and they know that,” Knight said. “So they are entering into a smart partnership.”
