Gallatin AI raises $50 million for its military logistics platform

Gallatin AI Inc., a developer of military logistics software, today announced that it has raised $50 million in funding.

The Series A round included contributions from 8VC, Silent Ventures and several others. This will be followed by a seed capital increase of $15 million in 2024.

El Segundo, California-based Gallatin has developed a software platform called Navigator that helps the U.S. military manage its supply chain. The company’s customers include the US Army and the US Air Force. Gallatin said Navigator can also be used by the U.S. Department of Defense’s commercial logistics partners. The company says the software streamlines the transportation of deliveries while saving logistics teams time.

“The opportunity before us is bigger than building better software,” said Brian Ballard, Gallatin’s chief product officer. “It turns logistics into a source of operational advantage and empowers sustainment stakeholders to make better decisions before constraints become mission problems.”

Determining which materials are needed where requires significant manual effort. Logistics teams must review large inventory reports and short, ad hoc delivery requests submitted through systems such as the U.S. military’s internal chat tools. In some cases it is also necessary to analyze data from vehicle sensors. Such sensors can detect when an important raw material such as fuel needs to be refilled.

Navigator automates the data collection workflow. It aggregates supply chain records from multiple systems and organizes them in a standardized form. From there, the software uses artificial intelligence to visualize the data in dashboards.

It also lists all assets that a logistics team is responsible for supporting. If these assets are aircraft, the platform may display details such as required fuel, anti-corrosion sprays and spare parts. The software converts some of this information into graphs while overlaying other data points on a map. There is also a table-like dataset viewer.

Navigator uses AI to predict when supplies will run out. It creates forecasts based on data points such as current inventory levels and historical consumption patterns. In addition, the software adjusts its estimates in response to new events such as an unexpected increase in consumption.

Logistics teams can use Navigator’s information interface to develop replenishment plans. According to Gallatin, the platform’s built-in AI automatically flags areas for improvement in these plans. It also automates certain related tasks such as the creation of administrative documents.

Gallatin will use the proceeds from its funding round to improve Navigator’s AI capabilities. The company will hire more engineers to support the effort.
