In short, this is the Star Wars racing game you are looking for. But no matter how much you like the sci-fi saga, Galactic Racer is a brilliant arcade racer in its own right, boasting a level of depth and replayability rarely found in the genre.

Star Wars Galactic Racer from Fuse Games is bold, spectacular and offers incredibly satisfying gameplay in both single player and multiplayer modes. The high difficulty and unrelenting intensity might put off some casual Star Wars fans who just want a spectacle, but if you’re looking for a killer track-based arcade racing game, you’ve found it. The force is strong with this one.

Sometimes it feels unfair, the balance needs to be improved and I don’t agree with every design decision. This volatility will drive some players crazy, but I’d rather play a racing game that occasionally makes me angry than one that doesn’t make me feel anything at all. Galactic Racer makes racing feel dangerous again, and I bloody loved it.

Galactic Racer is the absolutely perfect 10 minutes expanded into a full game. Every moment feels joyfully quick. Every decision carries the burden of tension. And every run is a worthwhile opportunity to learn, improve, tinker and adapt, whether it ends in success or failure. I can’t wait to continue playing my favorite racing game for years.

Twenty hours later, having finished the campaign and put a lot more time into the other offerings, there is still so much Galactic Racer left. I spent 45 minutes on a track yesterday, not for the gold medal I already had, but for the chance to beat another reviewer’s time on the leaderboard, and I don’t regret a minute. Galactic Racer is a Star Wars game, and that may be enough for some, but not for me. Luckily, it’s an even better racing game, filled to the brim with tracks, car setups and characters that keep me coming back to the track for another race.

And for my Episode I Racer friends: Galactic Racer’s marketing has kept the Podracers in the background, but don’t let that fool you. When I finished the campaign, I was happy and whispered one thing to myself: This is podracing now.

Galactic Racer is much more than just a racing game in the Star Wars universe. Fuse Games was brave enough to make its first appearance in a game with an IP whose fans are incredibly quick to criticize when something doesn’t feel right. From run-based racing and compelling new characters to a multiplayer mode that keeps you playing long after the campaign is over, Galactic Racer is another example of a studio taking some thoughtful risks with the Star Wars IP to create something truly special.

To be honest, I hardly have anything to complain about. This is exactly the kind of racing game that’s been on my mind for the last decade or two. Star Wars: Galactic Racer manages to capture the feel of the classic Episode I: Racer game as well as Burnout, with improved physics, a reasonably compelling story, a ridiculous amount of content, a brutal but rewarding difficulty level, and a roguelite campaign that immediately hooked me.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer exceeded my expectations to the highest degree and offers a dream combination of Star Wars podracing and burnout. With an addictive campaign mode, an interesting use of Podracers, lots of characters to meet and interact with, tons of customization options, cross-platform multiplayer and beautiful graphics and music; This game is everything I hoped for and more! Star Wars: Galactic Racer did more than bring racing back to the galaxy. It made me believe that there is nothing faster and more dangerous than podracing.

Right down to the wonderful English regional accents that suggest daytime musicians at Elstree Studios are doing their part. And there’s a nice range of racing options too, with arcade modes and a range of themed mini-tours and multiplayer single rounds and multiplayer micro-campaigns and even a bit of pod racing. They are new games with roguelite choices and endless unlockables, and they are also old games with cruel and ingenious routes where everything can be lost in the blink of an eye. It’s a galaxy far, far away, and it’s also a paradise city.
